WASHINGTON (July 1, 2025) — As The Washington Informer marks its 60th anniversary as a trusted voice in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, the publication is launching its inaugural Best of the DMV 2025 campaign. This community-driven celebration will highlight the people, places, businesses and organizations that make the region an extraordinary place to live, work and thrive.

The nomination period runs from July 1 to July 31, 2025. Residents can nominate their favorite businesses, organizations, experiences and individuals across the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. The voting period runs from Sept. 1 to Oct. 3, 2025, when readers will choose from among the finalists to determine the Best of the DMV 2025 winners. Participation is free, and winners will be announced at a November celebration event and featured in a commemorative print and digital issue.

In a time when local journalism and small businesses face unprecedented challenges, Best of the DMV will showcase how the community can be a powerful tool for uplifting talent and enterprises.

Throughout the campaign, The Washington Informer will activate on all platforms, including print, web, email and social channels. These platforms will spotlight nominees and drive community engagement. Nominees will be encouraged to mobilize their networks, amplifying the collective reach and impact of the campaign.

Local and regional sponsors are invited to join this celebratory effort and connect their brand with a positive, community-first initiative. Sponsorship includes tailored media placements, brand integration across platforms and exclusive presence at the celebration event. The campaign will present an opportunity to be part of something joyful and deeply rooted in the DMV’s cultural fabric.

“This campaign is our love letter to the DMV,” said Denise Rolark Barnes, Publisher of The Washington Informer. “At a time when divisiveness can dominate the headlines, we’re choosing unity, excellence, and community pride. Best of the DMV 2025 is about reminding ourselves, and the world that our region is rich with brilliance, generosity, and talent.”
