Diddy Could Remain Behind Bars for Months Despite Acquittal on Major Charges

Cheers rang out from fans gathered outside the Manhattan courthouse after Sean “Diddy” Combs was acquitted of the most serious charges—sex trafficking and racketeering—that could have landed him a life sentence. But inside the courtroom, the mood was far more sobering: Combs isn’t going anywhere.
Though found guilty only of two prostitution charges, the hip-hop mogul could remain behind bars—possibly for months—after Judge Arun Subramanian denied his request for bail.
“For the reasons I indicated, the application for bail is denied,” the judge said, citing Combs’ past history of violence, particularly against women, as the main reason for keeping him behind bars until sentencing, which the judge indicated could be in October.
Prosecutors are pushing for a sentence of four to five years. “He’s an extremely violent man with an extraordinarily dangerous temper,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey. “His brazenness is unmatched.”
Combs’ defense attorney, Marc Agnifilo, pushed back, calling the remarks inflammatory and insisting Combs had been a model inmate. “He’s had no disciplinary issues,” said Agnifilo, “and he’s been trying to get into programs to address past behavior even before his arrest.
Agnifilo appealed to the court for fast-track sentencing, but the judge said a pre-sentencing report—which could take weeks or longer—would have to be completed first. A follow-up hearing is set for July 8 to determine the final sentencing date.
