It’s said that you’ve got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues.

The North & Greater Richmond Blues Foundation is hoping locals “pay their dues” in the form of support when they come out to the organization’s “2nd Annual “Fun‘D’raising Jam” Sunday, Feb. 26 from 6-10 p.m. inside the organization at 1350 Kelsey St. in Richmond.

A host of performers will sing to the rafters to support the organization, such as Margie Turner & the Outback Blues Band, Reggie Rolls, JNeen and event emcee MacArthur. Fillmore Slim will also perform works like “Blues from the Heart,” as the event’s special guest, said the organization’s Executive Director DeJeana Burkes.

After the performers appear, the jam will open up to public to also join in. Burkes said, “Bring your ax,” (the instrument you play) and then everybody will perform and sing together.

Soul food and beverages will be on hand and “love donations” benefitting the organization will also be appreciated, per the event flyer.

“Blues lovers please come out and support the foundation, these wonderful musicians and special performing artists,” said Burkes on Instagram. She added via phone, “The North & Greater Richmond Blues Foundation is a 501(c)3 and wouldn’t exist without the continued support of the community.”

Burkes told the Richmond Standard about the nonprofit’s mission during an earlier conversation. “Our mission is to uplift the blues community and to give it a place to shine the focus on the history of North and Greater Richmond,” she said.
