The New York Knicks were well on their way to a victory on Reverend
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day at Madison Square Garden over the
Toronto Raptors. The Knicks led by 10 points in the fourth quarter,
but costly missed free throws led to the game going to overtime and
the Raptors pulled off a 123-121 win. RJ Barrett, who sent the game
into overtime with a dunk, led the team with 32 points. Jalen Brunson
added 26 and Julius Randle had 21 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau discussed the loss. “It was a quick
turnaround for us and we kept fighting the whole game,” he said. “I
was proud and thought the effort was really good. We missed a shot at
the end. As long as we’re getting a good shot up. I look at it this
way – defend, rebound, low turnover. So, they shoot 39%, we out-rebound
them, we have 12 turnovers. And they’re a team that turns people over.
And we ended up with more shots than they had. The thing that hurt us
was the 41 free throws. So, we have to take a look at that. And even
more, the fouls late. Sometimes you have to adjust how it’s being
called. That’s what we’ll take a look at. We fell short, but they’re
sitting here waiting on us and it’s a back-to-back for us but I was
proud of the effort.”

Bruson, who missed the game winning shot, said, “You got to give them credit.

“They hustled a little more than us, they got to a couple more timely offensive
rebounds, put people to the foul line. Just got to give them credit”

The Knicks hosted the Washington Wizards Wednesday.
