San Diego County’s District 1 special general election took place yesterday, concluding a months-long race to fill the vacant seat left by former Supervisor and Chairwoman Nora Vargas.

The outcome of this election will determine not just who serves out the remainder of the term through January 2029, but also the political direction of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. With over 370,000 ballots initially mailed to registered voters, the stakes were high, as the winner will play a decisive role in shaping policy on public safety, housing, and health across the region, helping to oversee the allocation of the county’s $8 billion budget. Official results are expected soon as ballots continue to be counted.

Stay tuned to the Voice & Viewpoint for more election results coverage coming soon!
