Zhang Jianmin, consul general of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco (Ambassadorial Rank), welcomed guests to the consulate in celebration of the Chinese New Year on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Consul General Zhang mentioned that the barriers for entry to China had been lowered. He extended an invitation to San Franciscans to visit China.
Former San Francisco Mayor Willie L. Brown gave welcoming remarks at what was heralded as a reopening of the consulate. This was the first event open to the public since the advent of COVID.
Brown reflected on his five trips to China and how welcoming his hosts had been. He also commented that he had known Consul General Zhang for more than two decades.
Linda Parker Pennington, the San Francisco Commissioner on Disabilities and Aging Services, said “As we usher in this year of the rabbit, a symbol of peace, longevity, and luck, we hope that this year will bring our two communities harmony and prosperity.”
