Unfortunately, for the #11 Georgetown Hoya fans, the excitement that was established in the game between Seton Hall and DePaul did not even come close when they faced the #6 Villanova Wildcat. They faced each other 2 times during the regular season, with the Cats coming away with wins both times. The last game, the Hoyas gave Nova a run for their money losing a close one 77-73. Wednesday night in the last game of the night, Villanova (18–15, 11-10 in the conference) made easy work of Georgetown 7-26, a woeful 2-19 in the conference) after the Nova blowout 80-48 win.

G’towns guard Primo Spears gave his his team the only lead of the night (8-6) after he converted a lay-up. It would be all downhill from there. Villanova outscored Georgetown 34-14 the rest of the half and taking a commanding 40-21 halftime lead never looking back.

Villanova shot 47% converting 15 of 35 3 pointers. Spears led his team with 17 points. Georgetown struggled all night from the floor shooting only 34% and missing 17 of 20 3-point attempts. Forward Cam Whitmore led all scorers with 19 points.

While Villanova moves on to face #3 Creighton in the last game Thursday night, the future of Georgetown’s head coach is in question. Patrick Ewing was hired 6 years ago and has a record of 75-109. Asked after the game about his future he said, “no thoughts about my future. “The last two season’s been rough. Disappointed in the outcomes of the of these last two years. My future is in the hands of our president and our AD and the board of directors.”

It was also announced that Syracuse University is parting ways with head coach Jim Boeheim after 47 years. Syracuse lost their first round game in the ACC tournament 77-74 to Wake Forrest.
